Resurrection and the Life

On this Lord’s Day with its special emphasis on the bodily resurrection of our Lord and Savior Christ Jesus, it seemed good to present without comment what others have said concerning this miracle, foretold by the prophets, witnessed by the apostles, and preached by believers ever since.

Scriptural witnesses

  • For I know that my Redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth (Job 19:25).
  • For You will not leave my soul in Sheol, nor will You allow Your Holy One to see corruption (Psalm 16:10).
  • Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in his hand (Isaiah 53:10).
  • And Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights (Jonah 1:17).
  • He is not here; for He is risen, as He said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay (Matthew 28:6).

  • He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures (1 Corinthians 15:4).
  • For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead (1 Corinthians 15:21).
  • Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead (1 Peter 1:3).

The news came fast and furious this past week I seem to say that a lot, but the past seven days have been off the charts. Let’s take a look at it.

On Trump

It seems like longer than that, but it was just last weekend that alt-media superstar Mike Cernovich revealed that Obama administration official Susan Rice was the one who requested the unmasking of Trump transition team officials.

In March Trump sent and outraged tweet claiming that Obama “wiretapped” him, which prompted howls of protest from the mainstream media. Trump had no proof they said. What do they say now?

If one were to take the term “wiretap” in the strictest literal sense, then the revelations about Rice do not support Trump’s allegation. But if we understand “wiretap” as a general term for surveillance, then, yes, the story certainly does back up Trump.

Searching For Monsters

Stay out of foreign wars. Time was when Americans, from then least of them to the greatest of them, understood this simple, Biblical maxim of foreign policy.

But beginning with William McKinley and the Spanish American War in 1898, America got into the vulgar business of empire. Over the following century, the language of war, once foreign to American patriots, became the nation’s native tongue.

I was born during the Vietnam war. As a nine year old, I recall watching the nightly news as a helicopter evacuated the last remaining personnel from US embassy in Saigon, signaling the end of US intervention there.

Seven years later there was the intervention in Grenada.

In October 1983, America was shocked to hear that 241 Marines were killed in their barracks by a suicide bomber driving a truck.

In the late 90’s as the Soviet Union went belly up, war hawks went into panic mode as talk of a “peace dividend” was in the air.

There were no more monsters. What’s an interventionist to do?

But never underestimate a globalist. Indeed, they are a determined lot.

And it wasn’t long before the found just what they were looking for in the person of former ally Saddam Hussein.

Gulf War I quickly followed.

Then came Somalia, the Balkans, Gulf War II, Afghanistan, Libya, and more drone strikes and covert interventions than I could begin to name.

All of it, naturally, in the name of defending “our freedoms,” which were daily being consumed by the burgeoning security state fostered by the same folks who brought us the wars.

Now as I write Thursday night, across my phone comes the headline, “Trump launches attack on Syria with more than 50 tomahawk missiles.”

The search for monsters once again has found its mark.

Carson Speaks, Snowflakes Freak

Well, that didn’t take long.  Ben Carson completes his first full week as secretary of Housing and Urban development (HUD) and  the snowflakes are in full freak-out mode.

The proximate cause of the latest meltdown is Ben Carson’s speech to HUD employees in which he said, “That’s what America is about, a land of dreams and opportunity. There were other immigrants who came here in the bottom of slave ships, worked even longer, even harder for less. But they too had a dream that one day their sons, daughters, grandsons, granddaughters, great-grandsons, great-granddaughters, might pursue prosperity and happiness in this land.”

The echoes of Carson’s speech had scarcely died away before the hue and cry went up from the liberals on social media, all of whom, it seems, just knew that Carson was talking nonsense.

I’d reproduce a few of the responses, but most are R-rated and not appropriate for this blog. Which, without going on a tangent, is another thing that kills me about the snowflake SJW crowd, they very often presume to lecture you about their righteousness in F-bomb laden tirades.

They find it almost impossible to talk in a civilized manner, all the while telling you how stupid and ignorant you are. And what is more, the irony of all this is lost on them.

One of the few celebrity reactions that’s printable came from Whoopi Goldberg suggested that Ben Carson watch Roots.

But while the critics are quick to point fingers, they’re slow to do the basic intellectual work of attempting first to understand what Carson said. Why bother?, seems to be their attitude. It’s just obvious Carson’s a fool who doesn’t even know the difference between a slave and an immigrant.

But have any of the critics ever considered the definition of an immigrant? Most probably haven’t. But Ben Carson has.

As the New York Times reports, Ben Carson said in a radio interview defending his remarks that “You can be an involuntary immigrant…An immigrant is a person who comes to live permanently in a foreign country.”

Dr. Carson is exactly right. That’s the basic definition of an immigrant, a person who comes to permanently live in a foreign country. It says nothing about whether their coming is voluntary or not. As such, it can be applied to slaves.

In the future, perhaps the SJW crowd would do well to reach for their dictionaries before hitting the send button on their Twitter app.

The pas few years have seen the Jesuit Order on something of a roll.  With the election of Jorge Bergoglio to the Seat of Antichrist in 2013, the Jesuits at long last have one of their own in power.

But it doesn’t stop with having a Jesuit pope. The Democratic National Committee (DNC) recently celebrated the election Jesuit educated Tom Perez as the party’s new head. According to an article in the Jesuits’ own publication America Magazine, Perez “has deep Jesuit connections.” To wit:

  • Perez graduated from Jesuit Canisius High School in Buffalo, New York.
  • He met his wife Ann Marie Staudenmaier “when she was part of the Jesuit Volunteer Corp in Buffalo in the 1980s.”
  • Her uncle is Jesuit priest, John M. Staudenmaier who works at University of Detroit Mercy, a Jesuit school.

Tim Kaine, Hillary Clinton’s running mate, was Jesuit educated, attending Jesuit Rockhurst High School in Kansas City. Said Kaine of his high school experience,

That high school experience with the Jesuits was a key part of my transition into an adult life where instead of just accepting the answers of my parents or others, I’ve been a person who wants to go out and find the answers on my own, and the Jesuits get credit for that (America, July 22 2016).

Kaine also spent a nine month stint teaching at a Jesuit mission in Honduras.  So solicitous were the Jesuits of defending their man that one Jesuit high school in Phoenix banned an Alumnus from criticizing Kaine on the school’s Facebook page. 

So why should people care about the rise of the Jesuit order? Perhaps a few short quotes will drive home the point better than anything.

  • “My history of the Jesuits is not eloquently written, but it is supported by unquestionable authorities, [and] is very particular and very horrible. Their [the Jesuit Order’s] restoration [in 1814 by Pope Pius VII] is indeed a step toward darkness, cruelty, despotism, [and] death. …I do not like the appearance of the Jesuits. If ever there was a body of men who merited eternal damnation on earth and in hell, it is this Society of [Ignatius de] Loyola.” – John Adams, 2nd President of the United States
  • “Like you [John Adams], I disapprove of the restoration of the Jesuits, for it means a step backwards from light into darkness…” – Thomas Jefferson
  • It is my opinion that if the liberties of this country – the United States of America – are destroyed, it will be by the subtlety of the Roman Catholic Jesuit priests, for they are the most crafty, dangerous enemies to civil and religious liberty. They have instigated most of the wars of Europe.” – Marquis de LaFayette, French statesman and general
  •  “This American Civil war would never have been possible without the sinister influence of the Jesuits.” – Abraham Lincoln
  • “The Jesuits…are simply the Romish army for the earthly sovereignty of the world in the future, with the Pontiff of Rome for emperor. that’s their ideal.” – Fyodor Dostoyevsky
  • “They are, for the most part Jesuits, an ecclesiastical order, proverbial through the world for cunning, duplicity, and total want of moral principle.” – Samuel F. B. Morse, Foreign Conspiracy Against the Liberties of the United States, 60.

But lest you think I’m cherry picking quotes on the Jesuits to show them in as bad a light as possible, I freely admit that some people are quite impressed with them. Here’s a quote by a prominent gentleman who thought very highly of the Order.

“I learned above all from the Jesuits. So did Lenin, for that matter, if I remember rightly. There has been nothing more impressive in the world than the hierarchical organisation of the Catholic Church.

– Adolph Hitler, Chancellor of Germany as recorded by Hermann Rauschning in Hitler Speaks, 236.

But as bad as all those quotes are, trust me, there are plenty more where they came from. 

Suffice it to say that the Jesuits are no ordinary Catholics. Some have called the Jesuits the CIA of the Catholic Church. The Jesuit reputation for scheming has at times earned the order a bad reputation even within the corridors of power of the Roman Church-State. Pope Clement XIV suppressed the order in 1773, but it was brought back in 1814 by Pope Pius VII.

Such is the reputation of the Jesuits among the Romanists that the International Business Daily ran a headline at the time of the election of Pope Francis that read “Pope Francis I: First Jesuit Pope Shatters Centuries of Mistrust.”

With all this in mind, as Protestants we really need to ask ourselves, if the Romanists themselves don’t trust the Jesuits, why should we?

You Just Can’t Make This Stuff Up – Vatican Archbishop Commissions Homoerotic Painting Featuring Himself

“You just can’t make this stuff up.” That was my first thought when I came across the headline “Vatican archbishop featured in homoerotic painting he commissioned.”

Unbelievable. These guys are complete caricatures of themselves.

Yes, I’m well aware that Rome is the Woman Who Rides the Beast. I agree with the reformers that the office of the papacy is the Antichrist, the man of sin, whom the Lord will destroy at the brightness of his coming. I know all that.

But still.

You’d think the Antichristniks would show a little more discretion.

After all, the Archbishop in question, Vincenzo Paglia, was appointed by Pope Francis to head the Pontifical Academy for Life just last year. So he’s a genuine big time Vatican big shot. A key player in the Church’s lowerarchy.

According to the article on Life Site News (I don’t know much about Life Site News, it appears to be an ecumenical pro-life organization), the mural in question covers an entire wall of a cathedral church and “deptics Jesus carrying nets to heaven filled with naked and semi-nude homosexuals, transsexuals, prostitutes, and drug dealers, jumbled together in erotic interactions. Included in one of the nets is Paglia, the then diocesan bishop.”

Jesus said “by their fruits you shall know them.”

Indeed.

The Week In Review 3/4/2017 – It’s the Stupid Economy

This time last week it was 75 degrees and sunny. Today? Well, let’s just icy roads and accidents made the morning commute a little more exciting than usual. How can the weather change so much in seven days?!

 

Well at least one thing hasn’t changed over the last week, and that’s the dicey state of the nation’s economy. With the stock market hitting records level, that may seem like an odd thing to say. But the economy is not the same things as the stock market.

In fact, the past several years have seen an almost inverse relationship take hold between the performance of the Dow Jones and S&P indices and important economic indicators. In a normal, rational economy, if corporate earnings decline or unemployment spikes signaling a economic slowdown, the stock market should decline.

But in today’s Keynesian casino markets, bad economic news is good news from the markets perspective. Why is this? It all has to do with the Federal Reserve’s interest rate policy. You see, bad economic news means big money speculators believe the Fed will continue its policy of suppressing interest rates to near zero to stimulate economic growth. On the other hand, if the economy appears to be doing well, the market starts to think the Fed may hike interest rates, making stocks a less attractive opportunity. Thus the stock market goes down.

In short, it’s a stupid economy that rewards fraud and punishes success.

And after over eight years of stupidity such as near zero percent interest rates, we are now faced with simultaneous Fed created bubbles in stocks, bonds and real estate, which will all at some point burst. And that leads me into today’s story…

The Week In Review 1/28/17 – Build That Wall?

Well, one full week into the new Trump administration, and, despite all the hyperventilating from the snowflakes, it appears that the world indeed has not come to an end.  Who knew?  So what shall we say about this surprising state of affairs?  Let’s find out. 

Build That Wall

Ask any Trump supporter, or for that matter any Never-Trumper, what he thinks the candidate’s most important campaign promise was, and I suspect many, if not most, respondents would say “Build that wall!” This, of course, refers to Trump’s promise to build a roughly 1,900 mile long border wall between Mexico and the US to prevent illegal immigration across the nation’s southern border.

It’s an audacious plan. And one that has outraged the entire establishment, everyone from Pope Francis, to the progressive secular left, to the RINO Republican right, to the former president of Mexico. Some observers have tried to argue that Trump didn’t mean he intended to build a literal wall. All that was just talk, you see. It was promise to fire up the base, which would soon be dropped when the realities of governing set in.

Well, apparently Trump was entirely serious about what he said, as Wednesday “he signed executive orders instructing construction of a wall on the southwest border, a crackdown on so-called sanctuary cities and directives that would make effectively every undocumented immigrant a priority for deportation,” as the Huffington Post reports.

2016 Year In Review

Out with the old and in with the new. Yes, it’s that time of year again. The time when we flip over our calendars. For some of us it’s a time of making resolutions. For others, a time for avoiding them. In my case, it’s a convenient time to look back at the prior year in blogging as well as an opportunity to consider the year ahead.

In the first place, I would like to that the Lord for providing me with this wonderful forum for writing. Perhaps because I didn’t grow up with the internet – I’ll be 51 in March, so yes, I’m an old guy! – I’m still constantly amazed at the reach even a small blog such as this one can have. Never before in history has a single Christian had the opportunity to, quite literally, reach the whole world and never so much as venture outside his front door. There is much that is evil on the internet. As Christians, it is our job to be salt and light to the world. And through website, blogs, and podcasts God has provided an amazing tool for believers to fulfill the Great Commission.

Secondly, my sincere thanks are due to you, the readers of this blog. Even though I began writing this blog in 2009, I’m still amazed to think that anyone would take the time to read my words. It has been my honor and privilege to serve you in 2016. And it has been my prayer that this blog has, as the name suggests, helped to bring the light of Christ to the various subjects under consideration.

Now with all that said, let’s take a look at this past year in blogging.
