While the Trump administration has decided to focus its efforts to combat illegal immigration on building a border wall, it has largely remained silent on the issue of birthright citizenship for the children of illegal immigrants.
But while Trump has largely passed over this issue, today’s Cincinnati Enquirer carried a story showing that changing our nation’s approach to birthright citizenship should be front and center in any immigration reform program.
The headline of the story is a big tipoff that, yet again, an illegal immigrant has taken advantage of America’s absurd definition of citizenship, “Butler County mother faces deportation after child endangerment arrest.” The details in the brief report amount to a one woman argument against birthright citizenship for the children of illegal immigrants.
According to this story, a woman named Caludia Gamas-Mendoza was arrested Monday on charges of child endangerment for leaving four of her six young children alone in her apartment.
The article notes that she is being held without bond for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE)officers. Butler County, unlike some places, actually has public officials who take their job of upholding the law seriously and has a contract with ICE to hold illegal immigrants.
It turns out that not much is known about the woman. No one seems to know her country of origin. No one knows when or how she came to be in the United States. But this much is known, she has six children, all of whom are American citizens. The most reasonable conclusion is that her children are American citizens, not because either of their parents are American citizens, but solely because they were born on American soil, and probably at taxpayer expense at that. Apparently there is no father anywhere in the picture.
This is simply madness.
People come to this country illegally, we deem their children born here American citizens, and then further reward their law-breaking by giving the parents welfare benefits on behalf of their children.
Not only is this madness, it’s a scam on the American people.
Worth noting too is the all-too-obvious and baleful presence of the Roman Catholic Church-State, one of whose representatives admits that her agency, part of Catholic Charities of Southwestern Ohio, provided school-related support services for the children.
Isn’t helping someone break the law called aiding and abetting?
And in case you were wondering where the money for Catholic Charities comes from, it comes from you, the American taxpayer. According to this video, Catholic Charities has a budget of $3.9 billion, about half of which comes from Uncle Sam.
So there you go, the government sets up perverse incentives which reward lawbreaking, takes your money to pay the costs associated with them, and, if that weren’t bad enough, also forces you to fund the activities of the Antichrist Roman Church-State.
Why do Americans put up with this nonsense?
