In reflecting on the year gone by, I checked my blog stats and found that the most-read piece on Lux Lucet for the year was “Rum, Romanism, and Rebellion #5, The Political and Economic Romanism of Joe Biden.”
A couple of things about this post…in the first place it’s part of a loose series titled “Rum, Romanism and Rebellion” that’s a collection of standalone posts centered on the interference of the Roman Church-State in American politics. The title “Rum, Romanism, and Rebellion” comes from a famous quote by Presbyterian minister and Union civil war veteran Dr. Samuel D. Burchard. Shortly before the 1884 presidential election, which pitted Republican James G. Blaine against Democrat Grover Cleveland, Burchard gave a speech in New York City in which he used the following words:
We are Republicans, and don’t propose to leave our party and identify ourselves with the party whose antecedents have been rum, Romanism, and rebellion. We are loyal to our flag.
According to the standard historians, this quote was a gaff that was responsible for firing up the Catholic vote in New York which resulted in Blaine losing his bid for the White House. Whether that’s the case or not, I don’t know. But in my opinion, I think Burchard’s alliterative trio is one of the most perceptive observations in American political history. It was true in 1884 and it is true, perhaps even more so, today in 2022. The Democratic party is the home of the Roman Catholic Church-State in America and has been for the better part of two centuries. Burchard’s quote offended many in his day and offends many in our day, not because he was wrong, but because he was right and said the quiet part out loud.
I wrote quite a lot, and quite critically, about the Roman Catholic Church-State in 2021 and, Lord willing, likely will continue to do so in 2022. With that in mind, perhaps it’s worth mentioning why I do so. It’s not, as some would suppose, that I harbor animosity toward Roman Catholics. I have friends and coworkers who are Catholic and have admired them for their talents, for their commitment to doing good work, and for their commitment to their families and to their country. My chief motivation for speaking and writing as I do about Rome is my conviction that the principal issues of the Reformation – that the Bible alone is the Word of God, and that sinners are saved by grace alone, through faith (belief) alone, in Christ alone – are non-negotiable matters of eternal life or eternal death. What is more, I love and care about those I know who are lost in Romish darkness and want to see them come to the knowledge of the truth in Christ. This compels me to tell the truth about Rome.
A second reason for my writing about Rome is that I find the topic of the Roman Catholic Church-State (RCCS) endlessly fascinating. So, what grabs my attention? Several things. But were I to give you one specific reason, it would be this: However evil I think Rome is, it turns out upon investigation to be even worse than I thought it was or could ever have imagined.
Third, there’s my conviction that the Protestant church has spiritually disarmed itself in the system of Antichrist and must be reminded that Rome, far from being their friend, is their deadliest enemy on the face of the earth. This spiritual disarmament began well over a century ago and has continued apace into our own day. So much so that Christianity Today ran an article in response to Pope Francis’ visit to America in 2015 titled “From Antichrist to Brother in Christ: How Protestant Pastors View the Pope.” To the degree that Protestants fail to recognize the office of the papacy as the Antichrist of Scripture, and to the degree that they welcome him as a brother in Christ, to that degree they render themselves unfit to fight the good fight of faith.
Covid is another topic that figured large on Lux Lucet in 2021 and likely will continue to do so into 2022. The most popular 2021 post dealing with Covid was “The Bible and Covid Lockdowns” from 1/3/2021. This post offered a Clarkian critique of science and a look at what the Scriptures tell us about how to approach dealing with Covid. What does the Bible teach about quarantines? In short, while the Bible does support quarantining sick people, there is no support whatsoever in Scripture for locking down an entire nation “to stop the spread.” In other words, the lockdowns and other mandates favored by the likes of Anthony Fauci are unbiblical. They are also unconstitutional, as nowhere in the Constitution is power granted to the federal government to impose medical treatment on anyone.
I am of the opinion that the Covid scamdemic is an attempt by the globalists – and chief among the globalists is the RCCS – to impose a globalist dictatorship on the entire world and that the vaccine – while ineffective and preventing those who have received the jab either from getting the virus or from transmitting it – is highly effective as a means of coercing people into the worldwide fascist dictatorship the elite – including the Pope – have planned for us. With that in mind, is it any surprise that the Jesuit Pope and Jesuit-trained Anthony Fauci push the unsafe and ineffective Covid jabs so hard?
As I write, Romanist Joe Biden’s vaccine mandate is before the Supreme Court with a ruling expected early this week. If the Court follows the Constitution, Americans will have dodged a bullet for now. If the Court follows the Jesuits, millions of Americans will face the real possibility that they will neither be able to buy nor sell unless they take the jab, a frightening state of affairs lifted right out of Revelation 13.
There doubtless will be many surprises in the New Year as well. One possible surprise for many people could be a new economic crisis. Our financial system has been hanging by a thread since 2008, and it could give way, or perhaps get intentionally shoved by the bankers, over the edge this year. Watch for continued dollar devaluation as a result of Congressional deficit spending and the Fed’s money printing to finance it.
A second surprise could be war. Tensions are high in eastern Europe, specifically over Ukraine. The tensions between the Russian Federation and NATO have never been higher, yet this situation has received little coverage in the press. And when it is covered by the Western legacy media, it’s done so in a way to cast Russia as the aggressor and the U.S. and NATO as the good guys. Though it pains me to say this, the opposite is the case.
Could 2022 be the year China tests America with respect to Taiwan? Some think so. What if America gets involved in a war with Russia over Ukraine? Would that not be an opportunity for China to move on Taiwan? It seems to me the answer is yes.
Then there are the 2022 midterm Congressional elections. Mainstream political commentators are of the opinion that the Republicans will swamp the Democrats in the fall, but I’m not so sure Americans are going to be able to vote their way out of this mess. The Democrats flat out stole the presidential election in 2020, yet no one has gone to jail over it, and the Biden regime remains firmly ensconced in power. Unless the election fraud of 2020 is exposed and the fraudsters prosecuted, it seems likely that the Democrats will – through some combination of changing the voting laws, perhaps the creation of a national emergency such as a war or the extension of the scamdemic, and the good old-fashioned 19th-century-style election thuggery; the sort of thuggery that is the specialty of the party of Rum, Romanism, and Rebellion; which they employed to such great effect in 2020 – steal the 2022 Congressional elections.
An alternate and more positive take on the 2022 elections is that the Democrats, having had their ability to cheat limited by election reform laws passed in certain states, will not have the ability to rig the elections as they did in 2020.
Alt-take two is that the election fraud related to the 2020 elections is exposed and the perpetrators prosecuted. If that happens, the Democrats are going down for a long time to come.
Alt-take three on possible election fraud is that the Democrats, having won the Big One in 2020, may back off the cheating a bit in 2022 and save their fraud push for the 2024 elections.
One thing is for certain, the Democrats will continue to commit election fraud, and most likely do so on an increasing scale. The next fraudulent tool in their toolbox appears to be allowing noncitizens to vote in elections as New York Mayor Eric Adams confirmed will be the case in his city. The New York law permits noncitizens to vote in municipal elections. But do you think it will stay that way? Probably not. Once you grant the principle that noncitizens can legally vote, what’s to stop that from moving up the food chain to state and then federal elections? It is entirely possible that Americans will find themselves dispossessed in their own nation by a horde of foreigners who will cast the votes Americans won’t cast.
That’s about enough for today. I wish I had something more positive to close on. As Christians, we know in whom we have believed and have every reason to be long-term optimists. But at the same time, we also know the prince of this world is at work and more than capable of wreaking havoc until Christ returns. For that reason, we must be realistic and measured when considering the future. Just as Proverbs commends the man who foresees trouble coming and hides himself, so too must we pray for wisdom to discern the times and take appropriate action to avoid the many dangers in our day. And to do this requires honestly assessing the circumstances in which we find ourselves. As things stand, it appears Christians face an increasingly hostile near-term situation, and we need to be honest with ourselves and admit this.
In closing, I’d like to thank my readers for their support in 2021. By God’s grace, I look forward to serving you in Christ in 2022.
Wishing all of you grace and peace in the New Year,
Steve

Steve, we are not Luther or Calvin, but we are to contend for the faith (Jude 1:3) despite minor theological differences in traditional orthodox Protestant Christianity like an old-fashioned Lutheran differing from a Scot Presbyterian. Don’t second guess yourself – temptations and doubts of the mind. I’m tempted as well. “Oh, don’t write that, keep your mouth shut; you might stir the pot too much and the Pope will get offended”. The fear arises from the carnal nature, etc. Lord Help. As you so righty pointed out, the Protestant voice is nearly silent and or willfully ignorant. Yes, the Dems are running in harmony with the RCCS; however, as you know, the pendulum could eventually swing to a FALSE conservative Christianity in the Republican Party to where there is an ecumenical Pharisaic movement similar to Christian Reconstructionism where Catholics and false Protestants persecutive with an Inquisition – simply the flip side of the liberal Inquisition underway. Trump has told us to not be critical of Catholics – suppressing our 1st Amendment Right as well as Scripture’s rebukes on the Papacy. We are very close to being a Catholic Nation with a power struggle as to whether the liberal or conservative demon runs the show. Of course, if the liberal agenda comes to full fruition, then the so-called conservative Christians will align like the Rinos and persecute all dissenters. Hitler just wasn’t after the Jews. Being he was truly Satanically enraged; he was also seeking out Baptist and Protestants as well. Satan’s fury is against the Word. As the Lord proclaims, My Kingdom is not of this world. Either way, keep contending for the Faith. Tommy
