Political Romanism, Islam, and Judaism Versus the West

All three religions – Romanism, Islam, and Judaism – are false, militant, and violent. 

  • John W. Robbins, “The Religious Wars of the 21st Century”

In a piece I have cited several times before in this space, John Robbins commenting on the coming religious wars of the 21st century noted that “the religious right in America has embraced both Romanism and Judaism as saviors of the West, foolishly ignorant of the fact that they, as forms of unbelief, are destroyers of the West and causes of the collapse [of the West].” [1]   

As I have noted previously, Robbins does something in his article that I have never seen done by any other writer.  Rather than taking sides with Romanism, Judaism, or Islam, he describes all three as “medieval…false, militant, and violent.” But unlike Robbins, many Evangelicals do take sides with either Romanism or Judaism against the secularists and Islam. 

In America, one likely would not find those who claim to be Christians, at least those of the “religious right” variety, embracing Islam.  Unlike Romanism and Judaism, Islam is viewed with suspicion by the religious right due to events such as 9/11, the influence of dispensationalism, and the work of the Israel lobby.

One may be tempted to question Robbins’ characterization of Romanism, Islam, and Judaism as destroyers of the West.  After all, didn’t Christianity Today run a piece in 2015 titled “From Antichrist to Brother in Christ: How Protestant Pastors View the Pope”? Further, American Christians are constantly told that they have a Biblical obligation to support the state of Israel and the Jews as “God’s chosen people.”[2]

GOP Betrayal and the Antisemitism Awareness Act

Tucker Carlson’s post on X from May 2, 2024, commenting on the Antisemitism Awareness Act. In another post on X, Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) noted, “Speaker Mike Johnson was so eager to please AIPAC that he didn’t read the bill he rushed to the floor.”

As if it weren’t enough for the GOP to betray America and its voter base by voting to send money to fund wars in Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan, they followed it up with another outrage last week by helping to pass the Antisemitism Awareness Act (AAA) that, among other things, logically implies that the New Testament is antisemitic and illegal.

The bill has not yet passed the Senate or been signed into law by the President, so it’s not law yet.  But if it does become law – and I think it’s likely that it will – your Bible will be considered legally antisemitic.  At least as far as the Department of Education (DOE) is concerned.  Based on my reading of the bill and the comments of others, it appears that the bill empowers only the DOE to “take into consideration the definition of antisemitism” used in the bill.

“But,” someone may argue, “the AAA has a sentence that reads, “Nothing in this Act shall be construed to diminish or infringe upon any right protected under the First Amendment.” To which the proper response is, yes, and the 1964 Civil Rights Act has explicit language prohibiting racial quotas, too.  But in 1968, the Equal Employment Opportunities Commission (EEOC) implemented Affirmative Action anyway, which is the system of racial quotas Americans have suffered under for over 50 years now.  There is no reason for Americans to believe that this language against restrictions on the First Amendment will have any bearing on how the DOE administers the AAA. As has been pointed out by others, the way lawmaking works in our technocratic, bureaucratic state, Congressional bills are little more than authorizations for the Executive Branch departments to make rules pursuant to the authorization.  I have no doubt that the DOE will use AAA to infringe upon Americans’ God-given, Constitutionally-guaranteed right of free speech.

South Dakota’s Attack on the First Amendment

South Dakota Governor signs bill attacking the First Amendment.

“Because Christianity is neither Romanism nor Judaism nor Islam, there is no need for the United States, a historically, if not currently, Christian nation, to be involved in the religious wars of the twenty-first century.  But because of the influence of American citizens (and non-citizens) who are Jews, Catholics, and Dispensational Evangelicals, we are already involved.  In fact, because of our foreign policy of interventionism developed in the twentieth century, and because of our more recent policy of pre-emptive war, the United States has become the primary target of militant Muslims worldwide. And not of Muslims only. Agents of both Israel and Rome are active in the United States, both gathering intelligence and influencing policy. The U. S. government is manipulated by foreign interests. Both Israel and the Vatican see the United States as their proxy in this religious war”[1] (emphasis mine).

Gov. Kristi Noem, a favorite of conservatives and a possible running mate for Donald Trump in 2024, recently signed a bill “requiring the consideration of the definition of antisemitism when investigating unfair or discriminatory practices.” 

The bill, titled “An Act to require the consideration of the definition of antisemitism when investigating unfair or discriminatory practices,” reads,

In reviewing, investigating, or deciding whether an alleged violation of this chapter
is antisemitic, the Division of Human Rights must consider the definition of antisemitism.
For the purposes of this chapter, the term “antisemitism” has the same meaning as the
working definition of antisemitism adopted by the International Holocaust Remembrance
Alliance on May 26, 2016, including the contemporary examples of antisemitism identified therein.

Nothing in this section may be construed to diminish or infringe upon any protected
right under U.S. Const., amend. I or S.D. Const., Art. VI, § 5, or to conflict with any
federal, state, or local discrimination law.

Pay special attention to the second paragraph. It notes, “Nothing in the section may be construed to diminish or infringe upon any protected right under U.S. Const., amend I….” This is typical of the double-speak of our time where it is almost a sure-fire guarantee that any statement by a politician, academic, or journalist almost certainly means the exact opposite of what it claims to mean.  This bill is surely an attack on the First Amendment to insulate Jews and Israel from criticism.

Last week saw Donald Trump booked in the Fulton Country, GA jail along with 18 other individuals who are charged with what amounts to exercising their right to question the 2020 election results in the State of Georgia.

Whatever you may think of Donald Trump or the 2020 election, the fact that a former president can be charged with racketeering for questioning the official narrative that the “election was the most secure in American history” ought to be cause for alarm.  And it’s not just Donald Trump either.  Eighteen other individuals have been indicted in this case, including lawyers who assisted Trump, most notably Rudy Giuliani, former Mayor of New York.

The Biden Regime, the Establishment, is sending the message to any future president or presidential candidate, don’t you dare even consider representing anyone but us.  If you try to represent the people, you are history.

Facing Unpleasant Realities, Part 3: The United States is Bankrupt

Your country is desolate, your cities are burned with fire; strangers devour your land in your presence; and it is desolate as overthrown by strangers. Isaiah 1:7

“‘How did you go bankrupt?’ Bill asked.  ‘Two ways,’ Mike said.  ‘Gradually and then suddenly.’“ So wrote Ernest Hemmingway in his novel The Sun Also Rises. 

Although Hemmingway’s book was a work fiction, what he said about bankruptcy is a phenomenon many of us have seen in real life.  Individuals and organizations that appear to be in robust financial health experience sudden financial collapse. 

Perhaps the poster child for sudden financial ruin is Lehman Brothers, a famous 150-year-old Wall Street investment bank.  Having earned record profits during the height of the real estate bubble from 2005-2007, early in the morning on Monday, September 15,2008, Lehman Brothers filed for bankruptcy.   

The collapse of Lehman Brothers to this day is still the largest bankruptcy in American history. 

Gradually, then suddenly.  That same pattern can be seen in the Scriptures as well.  In Deuteronomy 32:35 we read, “Their foot shall slide in due time.”   Some will recognize this as the text on which Jonathan Edwards based his famous sermon “Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God.” Wrote Edwards,

It [the saying “their foot shall slide in due time”] implies, that they were always exposed to sudden unexpected destruction.  As he that walks in slippery places is every moment liable to fall, he cannot foresee one moment whether he shall stand or fall the next; and when he does fall, he falls at once without warning: Which is also expressed in ‘Surely thou didst set them in slippery places; thou castedst them down into destruction:  How are they brought into desolation as in a moment? (Psalm 73:18-19).

Sodom and Gomorrah met with destruction in a single day. 

After centuries of rebellion against God, Jerusalem was sacked in a single day. 

In Daniel’s time, the mighty city of Babylon was overthrown in a single day. 

In Revelation, the voice from heaven prophesies that the destruction of Babylon the Great will come in a single day.  The kings of the earth are said to lament her destruction, crying out, “Alas, alas, that great city Babylon, that mighty city!  For in one hour your judgment has come” (Revelation 18:10).  

In all of these cases, the sudden final destruction was really the end result of a process that had been going on for many years.

Facing Unpleasant Realities, Part 2: Political Conservatism Is a Total Failure

“Major Study Finds The US Is An Oligarchy” was the way Business Insider reported the findings of a 2014 Princeton University peer-reviewed study of American politics.  In it, researchers Martin Gilens and Benjamin I. Page concluded,  “The central point that emerges from our research is that economic elites and organized groups representing business interests have substantial independent impacts on US government policy, while mass-based interest groups and average citizens have little or no independent influence.”

Since this is a Scripturalist blog dedicated to the proposition that the Bible alone furnishes us with knowledge, readers may question why this author would cite a secular, empirical study to make a point about the state of American politics in the early 21st century.  One reason for doing so is that, while this study reflects the opinion of its authors, he believes that their opinion is an accurate reflection, politically speaking, of the state of affairs in this nation.  Opinion, while not knowledge – knowledge is always true – nevertheless can be both true and useful.    

If this study is right, and the author is persuaded that it is, the United States, founded as a republic, has devolved into a vulgar oligarchy, which is defined as, “a government in which a small group exercise control especially for corrupt and selfish purposes.”  Why has this happened? John Adams, one of America’s Founding Fathers put it this way, “Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people.  It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.”  Adams was, of course, right.  Paper restraints are wholly inadequate to hold back sinful man’s desire – and this desire is found both among those who would govern and those who are governed – for big government.  If the American people do not believe in constitutional capitalism, the political and economic expression of Christianity, then there is nothing to stop the nation from devolving into some form of authoritarianism.    

Now it may be worth pausing for a moment to explain that the common understanding of the term “religious” in Adams time meant “Protestant.”  The population of the American colonies at the time of the revolution was 98% Protestant, and it was this sort of religion that the framers had in mind.  Today, it is common for people to understand by “religion” or “religious” that the framers of the Constitution were referring to all religions – e.g. Romanism, Judaism, Islam.  But these three medieval religions are incapable of creating or sustaining a free society.  It is Christianity as expressed in the 66 books of the Bible and systematized during the 16th century Protestant Reformation, that alone provides the necessary ideas needed to constrain government to its proper, limited role of punishing evil doers and rewarding the good.

“President Donald Trump signed an executive order aimed at tackling anti-Semitism on college campuses on Wednesday – but one of the speakers at the event said that Jews are going to hell,” thus reported the Huffington Post on Thursday.

Yes, the HuffPo was in a state of high dudgeon that Donald Trump dared to invite to the While House a Christian minister, who actually teaches Christian doctrine.

In this case, the guilty party was none other than noted Southern Baptist minister Robert Jeffress.  At times, I have been critical of Jeffress on this blog. I stand by my criticism.  But today I come not to bury Jeffress but to praise him.

What triggered the outrage at HuffPo and several other news outlets?  I’ll let the HuffPo’s headline speak for itself: “Pastor Who Says Jews Are Going To Hell Speaks At Trump’s Hanukkah Party.”
