Lessons from Jehoiada’s Righteous Act
The first lesson Christians can take from Jehoiada’s righteous restoration of the Davidic dynasty is that the Lord blesses those who obey his Word. The ouster of Athaliah and her execution were not accomplished by means of private rebellion. There was no mob violence. And this was the case even though it appears that Athaliah’s reign as queen was unpopular with the people. This can be seen by their reaction when Jehoiada anointed Joash. The Scripture tells us, “All the people of the land were rejoicing and blowing trumpets.” In this case, the behavior of both Jehoiada and the people was commendable.
The behavior of the people of Judah is an especially important lesson for American Christians to understand and model. It almost seems as if Joe Biden and his Deep State cronies are trying to bait Christians into taking some sort of violent action to “take back America.” You could see that in Biden’s offensive “Soul of America” speech on September 1 and in his no-so-veiled threat to use F-15s on Americans in a hypothetical civil war. Recent comments attributed to Bill Gates indicate he believes, “we’re going to have a hung election and a civil war.” It’s a bit of a proverb among those who follow elite globalists that they always tell you in advance what they’re going to do. For example, Anthony Fauci went on record at an event held at Georgetown University – Georgetown is the flagship school of the Jesuits in the United States – in January 2017 at the start of Trump’s presidency and proclaimed that “No doubt” Donald Trump would be confronted with a surprise infectious disease outbreak during his presidency. Fauci knew this because he and his buddies were planning it. Is Bill Gates doing something similar when he says America is headed for a hung election and civil war?
Peter wrote, “For what credit is it if, when you are beaten for your faults, you take it patiently? But when you do good and suffer, if you take it patiently, this is commendable before God.” As Christians, if we are denounced and punished by the evil Biden government, let it be for doing good, not for doing evil.
A second lesson Christians can take from Jehoiada’s example is that the Lord is faithful to his people and to his promises, even when things seem their bleakest. Consider what it must have looked like to a Judean in the days of Athaliah. As far as anyone knew, Athaliah had successfully murdered the entirety of the Davidic dynasty. As far as was publicly known, David’s heirs were done for. A new dynasty had taken charge. The existence of the young Joash was known, probably to only a few people. That this is the case can be seen in II Kings 11:4 where we read that Jehoiada brought in the captains of the guard, made them swear an oath, and showed them the king’s son. From this, it seems it was not generally known that there was yet a living, rightful heir to David’s throne.
This is an important point to make in 2022. From where I sit, things look bleak. We have an illegitimate government that seems to have successfully made the fraudulent 2020 presidential election stick. It appears that Joe Biden will serve out at least a full four-year term in office and possibly more. If that occurs, if no one is held to account for the 2020 election fraud, then it’s hard to see how Americans can hope to vote their way out of our current mess. Every day the Biden Regime is in office, it destroys our nation a little more. It’s hard to watch. We have millions of foreigners illegally pouring across our southern border, politicly inspired raids by the FBI, which is now little more than the Democrat’s private Gestapo, on Donald Trump, parents protesting Critical Race Theory and Transgenderism in their schools, and antiabortion activists asking people not to kill their kids. At the same time, egregious criminals like Hunter Biden, BLM, and Antifa go unpunished. We have the Biden Regime deliberately restricting our access to energy by canceling pipelines and making it almost impossible to drill for oil domestically, while at the same time promoting Vatican-inspired programs like the Green New Deal. While America’s economy is struggling and people are having a hard time paying their bills due to rising prices, Biden has no problem sending billions of dollars in aid to a tyrannical Ukrainian government that openly promotes Nazism and demands America start a war with a nuclear-armed Russia.
In my fifty-six years on this earth, I have never seen a darker time for my country, indeed, for all the West.
And yet, as Christians we know God is faithful, even if we don’t know the future. Perhaps he really is done with the United States. Perhaps there will be a rebirth of liberty in this land. But whatever the case may be, we know as Christians that it is our job to walk in God’s Word and do things his way. One way or another, God will crown our faithfulness.
A third lesson we can take from Jehoiada’s example is that we can expect to face opposition. II Kings 11 records that when Athaliah heard the noise of the people rejoicing at the new king, she come to the temple, tore her clothes, and cried, “Treason! Treason!” There is a saying that goes, they always accuse you of what they are doing. I used to be skeptical of that, but it really does seem to be true. Joe Biden accuses “the MAGA crowd” of sedition while being the beneficiary of a stolen election and actively working to destroy the United States of America. Hillary Clinton unctuously lectures Americans that “no one is above the law” while she herself acts as if she is above the law and calls us “deplorables.”
Closing
This ended up being a much longer series than I had originally planned. It’s been interesting for me to think through and write about the issue of how Christians ought to react when confronted by government evil. Admittedly, it’s uncomfortable to find myself being denounced by the President of the United States. No president has ever, at least in my lifetime, been so openly hostile to so many of his fellow citizens as Joe Biden. But he is a tool of the Papal Antichrist, so it should come as no surprise that he speaks and acts as he does. By the way, understanding that the Popes, all of them, are the Antichrist, man of sin, and son of perdition spoken of in Scripture has a great deal of practical value. In the first place, we can see him for what he is, the source of a great deal of the evil that goes on in this world. In the second place, we know that he will be around only so long and do only so much damage as the Lord allows. Third, we should not be surprised when those who follow him, Joe Biden and others, act like him.
As believers, let us pray that the Lord would have mercy on our nation, preach the gospel of Jesus Christ, and stand for the truth according to the Word of God. Come what may, we know that the Lord will bless our work.
