In 2016, Hillary Clinton one-upped Obama when she spoke of Trump’s supporters as a “basket of deplorables.” Like Obama, she dismissed the concerns of millions of ordinary Americans with a rhetorical wave of the hand.
Joe Biden continued the Democratic tradition of attacking ordinary Americans and Trump supporters from his very first day in office right up to the present. In his inaugural address,[1] he talked about “a rise in political extremism, white supremacy, domestic terrorism that we must confront and we will defeat.” This is all complete nonsense. But Biden, or perhaps more accurately, the people who control Biden, really are terrified of ordinary Americans and deeply hate and distrust them.
In his shrill and bizarre “Soul of the Nation” speech[2] in September 2022 in front of Independence Hall, Biden said, “American manufacturing has come alive across the Heartland, and the future will be made in America — (applause) — no matter what the white supremacists and the extremists say…Donald Trump and the MAGA Republicans represent an extremism that threatens the very foundations of our republic[3]…not even the majority of Republicans, are MAGA Republicans. Not every Republican embraces their extreme ideology…But there is no question that the Republican Party today is dominated, driven, and intimidated by Donald Trump and the MAGA Republicans, and that is a threat to this country…And here, in my view, is what is true: MAGA Republicans do not respect the Constitution. They do not believe in the rule of law. They do not recognize the will of the people…MAGA forces are determined to take this country backwards — backwards to an America where there is no right to choose, no right to privacy, no right to contraception, no right to marry who you love…That’s why respected conservatives, like Federal Circuit Court Judge Michael Luttig, has called Trump and the extreme MAGA Republicans, quote, a “clear and present danger” to our democracy.”
This is where things stand in America in 2024. We have an establishment that is openly hostile to the American people and their chosen representative, Donald Trump. And that establishment has done all it can to rid the body politic of him. The Republicans tried to rig the primaries in 2016 against him and failed. The party elders were so upset that many of them – including Ohio Governor John Kasich – refused to attend the 2016 Republican convention, even though it was held in Cleveland that year. They tried to rig the election for Hillary in the fall of 2016, but that failed, too. Then, the establishment – both Democrats and Republicans – spent the next four years throwing sand in the gears to undermine any initiative that Trump undertook to carry out his mandate from the voters, including impeaching him not once but twice.
Over the past four years, they have done everything in their power to overwhelm Trump with lawsuits and absurd criminal charges, which have largely failed or are failing.
Now we’re faced with the question, did the establishment just try to assassinate Donald Trump? While it’s impossible to prove it conclusively, in my opinion, the answer is probably yes. The establishment has been thinking about this for some time. As proof, consider the article “The Trump dictatorship: How to stop it”[4] by Robert Kagan. Many commentators at the time read it as a veiled call to assassinate Trump. What’s remarkable is that this call was made in the Washington Post and in an article by the highly influential Robert Kagan. It’s a long article, and I have provided a free link to it in the footnotes. Feel free to read it and decide for yourself what Kagan is seeking to accomplish.
Daniel McAdams, a close associate of Ron Paul, posted on X that “Every single mainstream media ‘journalist’ who compared Trump to Hitler also HAD HIS FINER ON THE TRIGGER that shot Trump tonight. I’m looking at YOU @jaketapper.”[5]
Indeed, the media has gone overboard for years, portraying Trump as “literally Hitler.” It reminds me of a line from the movie “Gladiator.” When talking to Maximus, one of the characters says to him that the emperor must first kill his name before he actually kills him. The mainstream media and political establishment have worked overtime to kill Trump’s name. It seems as if they have now taken the next step.
What role do Christians have in all this? The apostle Paul commands that we pray for “kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reference.” If you have not done so already, now is a good time to pray that the Lord would have mercy on the United States of America, especially his people here who are called by his name.

Search MAGA on the speech and see for yourself how hard Biden works to dehumanize the millions of ordinary Americans who voted for Donald Trump in 2016 and 2020 as enemies of the state to be destroyed. Biden’s rhetoric marks him and his administration as what the Constitution calls domestic enemies of the United States of America.
[3] Note well that it was not just Donald Trump who posed a threat to “the very foundations of our republic,” but his supporters also.
