Well, that didn’t take long. The last echoes of the inaugural balls had scarcely faded when the first protest march against Donald Trump hit the Washington Mall. I refer, of course, to the Women’s March on Washington which took place on January 22, 2017, the day after Trump was sworn in as the 45th president of the United States.
Beloved by much of middle America, reviled by the elites, from the very beginning of his presidential campaign Donald Trump has been a figure almost impossible to ignore.
It was not my intention to write about Saturday’s protest march against Trump. But the sheer size and radical nature of the event held in Washington and mirrored at other sites throughout the nation cries out for commentary.
Out of the Abundance of the Heart
Donald Trump’s notorious comments on the Billy Bush tape were certainly were vulgar, and in most other circumstances would have caused me to walk away from a candidate.
But as bad as Trump was, the Women’s Marchers actually managed to make him look like an angel. At least what Trump said was said in private conversation. At least her apologized for it.
But Madonna and company, what was their response? They amped up his crudeness by an order of magnitude then spewed it forth in public, right on TV for all the world to see and hear.
And not content with dropping f-bombs, Madonna suggested she had toyed with the idea of dropping literal bombs to blow up the White House. You go girl.
Ashely Judd read an obscene poem and seemed quite proud of herself for doing so. “I’m a nasty woman,” boasted Judd. She’ll get no argument from these quarters.
When Trump’s comments became public, there were anguished cries from conservatives calling for Trump to step aside. World declared Trump unfit for power. Christianity Today accused Evangelicals who supported Trump of the sin of idolatry.
But while it reflects well on Evangelicals that they care about the morality of their candidates, that very strength can be used against them. As Rebeca Teti observed, the dust up over Trump’s “locker room” talk really was an attempt to use Evangelicals decency against them. To silence them. To knock them out of the race.
But what about the socialists, the feminists, the LGBT activists? Were they embarrassed by the public vulgarity and threats of violence at the march? Apparently not. Where are the liberal denunciations of Madonna and Ashley Judd? From where I sit, all I hear are crickets.
And what is more, the vulgarity on display Saturday was not some one-off thing, but rather it is consistent with the behavior progressives have displayed for years, and in particular during the recent campaign season.
I was at a rally a few months ago at which was a large contingent of protesters. The sheer irony of their chanting “When they go low, we go high” followed by cries of “(expletive) Donald Trump” appeared to be lost on them.
Out the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. For my part, I’ve seen all the abundance of progressive hearts I care to for a very long time. Far from having the high moral ground, their movement is straight from the sewer.
Abortion, the Ultimate “Right”
The Social Justice Warriors (SJWs) parading through the Washington Mall on Saturday are the sort of people who love to lecture others about tolerance, but they themselves seem to have no idea what the word means.
In their minds, the defining proposition of feminism, indeed of all of life, is that a woman has the right to murder her unborn child.
In the end, March organizers made the decision to exclude pro-life feminist groups from joining the parade. The marchers did the pro-lifers a favor.
Tools of Soros
It has now become public that George Soros, that great disrupter of the domestic tranquility of so many nations, is, big surprise!!, one of the driving forces behind the March.
According to former Wall Street Journal reporter Asra Nomani, “Soros has funded or has close relationships with, at least 56 of the march’s ‘partners.’ ” These include,
- Planned Parenthood
- National Resource Defense Council
- MoveOn.org
- National Action Network
- American Civil Liberties union
- Center for Constitutional Rights
- Amnesty International
- Human Rights Watch
So in addition to being tiresome, vulgar bores, the marchers also managed to turn themselves into tools of an unrepentant Nazi collaborator and advocate of world government. Well done.
Gloria Steinem
Famous man-hater and CIA spook Gloria Steinem showed up at the March to impart her wisdom to the crowd. Eschewing the vulgarity that characterized some speakers, in her speech she nevertheless managed to touch on the tired liberal shibboleths of diversity and free stuff for everyone. As do most liberals, she showed herself very generous with other peoples’ money.
After skimming through the transcript of her speech, one thought did occur to me: I need to hear from Gloria Steinem like a fish needs a bicycle.
On the Lighter Side
It’s remarkable just how unfunny progressives are. I suppose they do actually come up with a laugh line from time to time. It’s just that I never seem to see one. In my experience, if SJWs ever manage to be funny, it’s usually be accident.
One example of their accidental sense of humor is their beloved initialism. When it started years ago, it used to just be three letters. As I recall, they were LGB, short for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual.
Then it got extended to four letters, LGBT, with the T standing for Transgender.
“Give me a Q,” someone said. And behold, a Q was added for Queer/Questioning, thus yielding LGBTQ.
But that is no longer progressive enough for the progressives who require ever more progress, in order to feel progressively more validated.
Thus we have the newest rendition of the hoary old favorite displayed on the Women’s March website. Listed on the group’s Unity Principles page is a plaintive cry for LGBTQIA Rights. You can almost hear them. “What do we want?” “LGBTQIA rights!” “When do we want them?” “Now!”
So just what do the new letters IA stand for. Well, the Women’s March folks aren’t much help.
To find out, I had to go to Wiktionary, which explained the IA as standing for Intersex and Asexual/Aromantic. What’ll they think of next?
For my part, I don’t know why the SJWs don’t just do away with this silly business of adding a letter every year or two. Go for the gusto and dump the whole alphabet on us at once. It’ll take years for us dullard deplorables to figure out what they’re talking about, by which time they’ll doubtlessly have long ago progressed to some other incomprehensible cause.
In Closing
“A house divided against itself will stand,” so said our Savior. After watching the inauguration and then the march, it seems fair to wonder whether America is fast approaching a crisis of unity.
The signs have been there for a long time, but events seem to be accelerating.
Clearly large numbers of Americans will not accept Trump as president. And just as clearly, large numbers, including this author, reject the progressive agenda in no uncertain terms.
Perhaps there is a way for us to live together. Perhaps that will prove impossible.
One thing is clear. Now is the time for God’s people to pray for their country.
