We are now in our third crisis in three years. In 2020 and 2021, it was the Covid scamdemic. When that got old, the masters of the universe gave us the war in Ukraine. And for the past year-and-a-half, it’s been all Ukraine all the time. Now that public support for that disastrous war, a war started by the neoconservatives in the American government, is fading, a new crisis is presented to us, a conflict that’s quickly been labeled the Israel-Hamas War.
This latest foreign war, in which our government is determined to involve us, is both unnecessary for the United States and extremely dangerous. Yet our government officials cannot constrain themselves from jumping into it with both feet.
Christian conservatives are excited that Mike Johnson, a Southern Baptist, has ascended to the speakership. And many are especially excited about his Christian Zionism.
By his own admission, Johnson’s first act as Speaker was to bring a resolution, not addressing any of the numerous serious issues plaguing Americans but in support of a foreign power, Israel. But oddly, not only do Evangelicals in general not condemn him for this, but rather they seem to be pleased with it.
As a Christian Zionist, Johnson believes that the Israel-Hamas war is a fight between good and evil, a war between light and darkness. And he “assured” Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that “Congress” under his leadership “will be there until the end,” whatever that means. At the very least, it means an open-ended commitment by the Speaker to steal the treasure, and possibly the blood, and the American people in support of a foreign government.
Presidential candidate Nikki Haley has managed to be even more extreme than Johnson, calling for the US to, “support Israel whatever they need. whenever they need it, no questions asked.”[2] According to Haley, Americans are simply supposed to fork over their treasure and even their lives with no corresponding right to even ask any questions. “Shut up and obey!” is Haley’s position. It seems to me that it’s fair to ask, if anyone is allowed to ask, where Haley’s loyalty lies. Is it with the United States, or is it with some foreign power?
Former Senator and possible third-party presidential candidate Joe Lieberman has come out slugging as well. In good neoconservative fashion, Lieberman thinks America should launch preemptive strikes on Iran, a nation that has not attacked the United States.[3] Does Lieberman allow questions, or like Nikki Haley, does he think it inappropriate?
I titled this piece “The Religious Wars of the 21st Century: An Update” in recognition of the debt I owe to John Robbins for his 2006 article “The Religious Wars of the 21st Century.” Lord willing, over the next few weeks, I hope to write a series of posts based on his article.
In his article, Robbins noted,
Agents of both Israel and Rome are active in the United States, both gathering intelligence and influencing policy. The U.S. government is manipulated by foreign interests. Both Israel and the Vatican see the United States as their proxy in this religious war.
The Israel-Hamas war is a conflict between Judaism and another violent, medieval religion, Islam. It is not true, as Speaker Johnson tells us, that the Israel-Hamas war is a matter of “good over evil, of light over darkness.” It’s a matter of one form of unbelief (Judaism) versus another form of unbelief (Islam).
America has no dog in this fight.
